A West African engineering and construction company is sourcing a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to be based at our head office in Ghana.
The Chief Operating Officer will oversee the organisation's daily operations and procedures and be responsible for managing the business's day-to-day activities and reporting them to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) as dictated by the overall strategy.
The COO will have to maintain control over diverse business operations and is expected to be an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, business acumen, and exemplary work ethics. The goal of the COO position is to secure the functionality of the business to drive extensive, sustainable growth and profits.
Key Performance Indicators
Implement, monitor, and achieve long and short-term company strategies to achieve sustainability in the market
Play a vital role in the marketing of the business, bid clarification process, tender pricing and value engineering of bids and opportunities
Manage the operational activities within the allowable budgets
Identify areas to cut costs and improve performance, policies, and programs
Manage internal and external stakeholders to achieve business objectives
Handle operations according to the company's standards within the constraints of the respective countries' laws and regulations
The critical requirements of the role include the following:
Relevant tertiary qualifications and a minimum of 20 years of relevant experience in the SMEIP (Structural, Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation and Piping) for both mining and oil & gas sectors. Including work examples that have resulted in significant increases in earned revenue through cost savings or productivity increases.
Must have a mechanical, structural, or similar engineering background
Must be well experienced in project management and control
The ability to think critically about issues, come up with creative and innovative solutions, and excellent collaboration and communication skills (both with internal and external stakeholders).
A known aptitude for timely decision-making and problem-solving
Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills
Outstanding organisational and leadership abilities
Demonstrable competency in strategic planning, tactical planning, and business development
Understand all the other relevant business functions such as HSE, HR, Finance, Supply Chain, Marketing, Business Development, etc.
Good working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics
Good working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure
Ability to design, implement and monitor appropriate business systems and processes
Competence in establishing business policies and procedures
The ability to competently set, assess and monitor both the company and employee KPIs, annual performance reviews and the mentoring of employees
Must speak and write English fluently.
Must have experience in Africa.
